Our Story
The history of our cidery draws on founder David Urffer’s Pennsylvania Dutch roots. The house and barn that now house the cidery once functioned as a dairy farm, and it belonged to David’s grandparents - Pappy and Grammy.
When the grandkids came to visit, Pappy and Grammy would call them snicklefritz, which means “mischievous child” in Pennsylvania Dutch. So when David traveled to Wales, he got into hard cider, tasting it and learning about the process. He came home and hit the ground running, doing the research to use Pappy’s Orchard apples in his very own ciders. And the name Snicklefritz was the perfect fit!
We took a side step into sparkling fresh apple cider and wanted to maintain the mischievous spirit, so we settled on “Nix Nux” - which translates to troublemaker.
For a while we did both alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties, but when we took a step back and thought about what we really wanted to do, we decided that sparkling defines our life and we slowed the hard cider side.
